MitraClip

MitraClip is a minimally invasive treatment for a leaking mitral valve, where blood flows backward inside the heart instead of moving forward properly. This can cause breathlessness, tiredness, and difficulty with everyday activities.

In this procedure, a small clip is guided to the heart through a thin tube inserted from a vein in the leg. The clip brings the leaking parts of the valve closer together so the valve can close better. The procedure is done using live ultrasound and X-ray guidance, without opening the chest or stopping the heart.

MitraClip is mainly used for patients who are not suitable for open-heart surgery. Recovery is usually quicker, with less discomfort and a shorter hospital stay, while helping reduce symptoms and improve daily comfort.
